In an online column for the Washington Post yesterday, world renowned biologist Richard Dawkins writes an excellentl indictment of Republicans and specifically Rick Perry for his dismissal of the scientific fact of evolution. This column is definitely worth the read. His assertion that “intellect, knowledge and linguistic mastery are mistrusted by Republican voters” couldn’t be more true. For those unfamiliar with the ongoing saga at La Sierra University, the school is being attacked by a fundamentalist witch hunt led by Shane Hilde and Sean Pitman who want the school to lose accreditation and stop teaching the science of evolution in favor of their narrow beliefs. They have set up a website, “Educate Truth,” to try and force the University to only teach what subscribes to their narrow views.
