My school, Pacific Union College, is America’s Most Beautiful College according to Newsweek‘s newest ranking. At least that’s what the video preview The Daily Beast just posted on its website that has overwhelmed my facebook and twitter timelines says. In all honesty, being ranked most beautiful is not a very big surprise at all—in terms of accuracy. PUC is located in the foothills above the Northern Napa Valley, easily one of the most picturesque places in the country, after all, and look around campus—my classmates are no slobs. I’m just surprised that Newsweek noticed a small liberal arts college with about 1,500 students. PUC President [...]
Senate Democrats Stand Up for College Affordability — Republicans Attack Health Care
Sen. Harkin is such a boss. Here he explains why the Republican proposal to cut the Prevention and Wellness Fund which funds necessary investments to keep Americans healthy (including vaccinations, etc.) instead of closing a tax loophole for the ultra-wealthy (the Democratic proposal) is a fiscal disaster. The loophole has even been criticized by the conservative Wall Street Journal. The Republican proposal does not make sense. College students in America cannot afford to have their student loan interest rates double from 3.4 to 6.8 percent. Republicans need to stop playing politics with college affordability to protect their ultra-wealthy donors.
Admission: Educate Truth admits to not knowing what is going on at La Sierra University
For those unfamiliar with the ongoing saga at La Sierra University, the school is being attacked by a fundamentalist witch hunt led by Shane Hilde and Sean Pitman who want the school to lose accreditation and stop teaching the science of evolution in favor of their narrow beliefs. They have set up a website, “Educate Truth,” to try and force the University to only teach what subscribes to their narrow views. They have been unrelenting, despite the fact that they have no evidence apart from hearsay from a few students with grudges against certain teachers. It will come as a [...]
Tim Kaine on record supporting nomination of Elizabeth Warren
I just got back from Gov. Kaine’s event in Charlottesville. Kaine spoke on a number of topics: focusing on education, working across the aisle, etc. The points that stood out most in my mind: When he took questions, I asked Kaine whether he would support a recess appointment for Elizabeth Warren to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Kaine said he is a “fan” of Elizabeth Warren and supports her nomination to the bureau. He also clearly stated that if President Obama chose to circumvent the “broken” confirmation process by appointing her through a recess appointment, he would support the President [...]
