Newsweek: PUC is America’s Most Beautiful College

Newsweek: PUC is America’s Most Beautiful College

My school, Pacific Union College, is America’s Most Beautiful College according to Newsweek‘s newest ranking. At least that’s what the video preview The Daily Beast just posted on its website that has overwhelmed my facebook and twitter timelines says. In all honesty, being ranked most beautiful is not a very big surprise at all—in terms of accuracy. PUC is located in the foothills above the Northern Napa Valley, easily one of the most picturesque places in the country, after all, and look around campus—my classmates are no slobs. I’m just surprised that Newsweek noticed a small liberal arts college with about 1,500 students. PUC President [...]

A good way to see the political leanings and loyalties of individuals is to see what candidates they donate funds to. Previously, accessing such reports would have taken hours of digging through cryptic campaign finance filings but thanks to the Huffington Posts’s service known as FundRace, statistics on donors are now available to everyone. The following is a list of the partisan leanings of donations originating from faculty members at Adventist higher education institutions in the United States. Quirks at Southern Adventist University

Quirks at Southern Adventist University

Earlier this week, I discovered a facebook group entitled You know you went to Southern Adventist University when…. Surprisingly, I have found many of the posts rather amusing, while others constitute a very clear reminder of the issues with the so-called education at ultra-conservative schools like Southern. I suggest a new name for the group: reasons not to go to Southern or other Sharia Christian Schools seems to fit well. That is, if you need reasons beyond Southern’s lousy academics. These are a few of my favorites. (Click on the image to see the actual posts in the group. At this [...]

Admission: Educate Truth admits to not knowing what is going on at La Sierra University

Admission: Educate Truth admits to not knowing what is going on at La Sierra University

For those unfamiliar with the ongoing saga at La Sierra University, the school is being attacked by a fundamentalist witch hunt led by Shane Hilde and Sean Pitman who want the school to lose accreditation and stop teaching the science of evolution in favor of their narrow beliefs. They have set up a website, “Educate Truth,” to try and force the University to only teach what subscribes to their narrow views. They have been unrelenting, despite the fact that they have no evidence apart from hearsay from a few students with grudges against certain teachers. It will come as a [...]
