Generation of Youth for Christ, an annual gathering of Conservative Adventists (read, Adventists who still think its the 1800s), was held this year in Houston Texas. This year I missed out on being present in Houston to hear the likes of Ted Wilson talk about how Adventist schools should cut funding from athletic programs, effectively obliterating them, as I have the past couple of years. Despite not being there, I do have a clues on how GYC went down from the comments that various attendees left on twitter. Have a look: Per the usual… It seems like there are more [...]
A good way to see the political leanings and loyalties of individuals is to see what candidates they donate funds to. Previously, accessing such reports would have taken hours of digging through cryptic campaign finance filings but thanks to the Huffington Posts’s service known as FundRace, statistics on donors are now available to everyone. The following is a list of the partisan leanings of donations originating from faculty members at Adventist higher education institutions in the United States. Regrettably, I must confess my failure and ask each and every one of you for forgiveness. Over many years I grew very close with an individual that [...]
In an online column for the Washington Post yesterday, world renowned biologist Richard Dawkins writes an excellentl indictment of Republicans and specifically Rick Perry for his dismissal of the scientific fact of evolution. This column is definitely worth the read. His assertion that “intellect, knowledge and linguistic mastery are mistrusted by Republican voters” couldn’t be more true. Do we need any more proof than Christine O’Donnell, Michelle Bachmann and Sharon Angle? Money quote (emphasis mine): A politician’s attitude to evolution is perhaps not directly important in itself. It can have unfortunate consequences on education and science policy but, compared to Perry’s and the [...]
